During a February 4, 2024 interview with Fox News, hosted by Maria Bartiromo, Trump referred to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and stated:
I think heās going to do something to probably help the Democrats, I think, if he lowers interest rates. It looks to me like heās trying to lower interest rates for the sake of maybe getting people elected, I donāt know.
On September 18, 2024, 47 days out from the election, the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates in a move thatās being described as "the most surprising Fed decision since 2009."
