D.O.G.E. Backstory

CNN claims Trump relied on an "arcane" agency to grant power to the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.).

However, D.O.G.E. is a revamped version of Obama’s United States Digital Service (created in 2014 to allow digital experts to work with government agencies to fix problems).

Interestingly, the USDS was bragging – under Biden, as recently as 2021 – about being "neck-deep" in the Medicaid mainframe.

How Can Trump Give Elon Musk Power?

As explained by Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller:

I’m glad for the opportunity for a brief civics lesson. The Constitution, Article Two, has a clause, known as the vesting clause: 'The executive power shall be vested in a president.' The whole will of democracy is imbued into the elected president. That president then appoints staff to then impose that democratic will onto the government.

How Much Has D.O.G.E. Saved?

One month into Trump’s presidency, the Secretary of Treasury confirms DOGE has already saved roughly $50 billion.

D.O.G.E. Privacy Lawsuits

On Feb. 21, a judge upheld a temporary access ban to sensitive Treasury data and the media spun it into a devastating blow.

However, what the judge really said is that she’d consider lifting the ban once DOGE members certify they have cybersecurity training. She also denied requests for broader restrictions.

On Feb. 18, an Obama-appointed federal judge sided with DOGE, refusing to block access to seven other top government agencies.

And a day earlier, a second Democrat-appointed federal judge also ruled in favor of DOGE. As the defense successfully argued: The Department of Education “routinely shares information with other Executive departments and agencies."
