Black Unemployment

CNBC called job creation for August 2021 a "huge disappointment, with the economy adding just 235,000 positions. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 720,000 new hires."

Between July and August 2021, the U.S. Department of Labor reports that Black unemployment rose 0.6% (to 8.8%) while White unemployment decreased 0.3% (to 4.5%).

BLM Riots: Costs & Aftermath

According to the Insurance Information Institute:

A preliminary estimate of insured losses [from the civil unrest in Minnesota and those events that followed across the United States from May 26 to June 8, 2020]from Property Claims Services, which is still subject to further evaluation, would be more than $1 billion, marking it as the costliest civil disorder in U.S. history.

A report from Axios dove deeper into the Insurance Information Institute data and claimed "that number could be as much as $2 billion."

The Foundation for Economic Freedom states:

We must also remember that riots leave a lasting shadow on a city that haunts its economy for decades. The afflicted areas face higher insurance rates, lower property values, higher prices, reduced tax revenue, and decreased economic opportunity.

Vaccine Passports: Racial Disparity

As of August 16, 2021, race data was available for 58% of people who had received at least one vaccine dose. Those numbers (above) paint an alarming picture. As Newsweek summarizes:

Many state and local leaders are now intent on enacting far-reaching rules about vaccination that will determine access to schools, public events, sports and arts performances, places of business and public accommodations. Yet activists are silent about the way vaccine mandates will affect groups that were targeted by the racist laws of the past. While approximately half of all white Americans are vaccinated, only 38 percent of African Americans have received at least one shot, the lowest rate of any ethnic or racial group. This fact is missing from discussion of proposals to ban the unvaccinated from the public square.

The Kaiser Family Foundation provides a useful analysis of CDC data.
