Iran is currently governed by the Islamic Republic, but as recently as 1978 it was a modern, secular monarchy. Others place the death toll closer to 3,000 with over 18,000 arrested. Confirmation is difficult due to internet blackouts. At the time of this video’s production, Iran is said to have paused planned executions following Trump’s strong suggestion of military intervention.
