Zelensky Background

In July 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, Olena Zelenska, appeared in Vogue for an article titled, "Portrait of Bravery: Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska."

The United States has sent $68 billion to Ukraine and, in November, the White House asked Congress for another $37.7 billion.

Zelensky Bans Political Opponents

Zelensky shut down his political opponents - banning 12 political parties, including Ukraine’s biggest opposition party which held 44 seats in the Ukrainian parliament.

On March 18, under martial law, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine created a “unified information policy.”

Ukraine Considers Russian Church Ban

On December 1, Zelensky signed a decree allowing sanctions against clergy members of Russian-affiliated religious organizations.

Zelensky also proposed a ban on the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.

In a televised address, Zelensky said:

The National Security and Defense Council instructed the Government to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on making it impossible for religious organizations affiliated with centers of influence in the Russian Federation to operate in Ukraine.
