Things Every American Can Be Thankful For

Economy

The United States has the largest economy in the world. The closest country in population size to the U.S. is Indonesia. Yet - clocking in at $23 trillion - America’s gross domestic product is almost 20 times higher. In fact, California alone has been recognized as the 5th largest economy in the world. It goes: the United States, China, Japan, Germany, California.

For reference, India is home to 1.39 billion people, and California - the state alone - has a larger economy. In 2021, California's GDP was $3.357 trillion. India's GDP in 2021 was $3.17 trillion.

Sports

America has hosted the Olympics eight times, more than any other country. The United States also holds the most Olympic medals in the world - more than double Germany’s and over three times more than China.

Freedom

Based on an annual index of 82 indicators of personal and economic freedom, the CATO Institute ranks the United States as literally 100 times freer than China.

A 38-nation survey conducted in 2015 found that Americans are among the most supportive of free speech.

According to a study from the LGBTI Global Human Rights Initiative, the United States ranks higher in social acceptance than 152 other countries.

Veterans

Forty-one million Americans have served the United States military over the course of our nation’s history.

Faith

And, as a Christian, I’m also thankful to live in a country where 55% of adults say they pray daily - making the United States the only country out of 102 surveyed nations that has higher-than-average levels of both prayer and wealth.

America Compared to Other Countries

As of 2021, only 23% of Americans say the U.S. stands above all other countries.

Forty-two percent of 18-29 year olds say other countries are better than the United States.
